“I have never had emotions have that quick of a turnaround,” Berthiaume recalled in a recent interview. Telling that group that we were done was gut wrenching. That was our last game, an overtime win over Montreal. We went from gearing up for the semifinals to nothing.“We went from the elation to going upstairs for an emergency meeting,” said Berthiaume, in his seventh season as head coach of the X-Women hockey program and 19th season overall. “I knew right then something was up.
The aborted 2020 tournament was the last time St. F.X. played in a U Sports women’s hockey championship. Lea MacLeod of the St. Francis Xavier X-Women finished fourth in Atlantc university hockey scoring with 32 points and 24 games and joined teammate Maggy Burbidge on Team Canada at the FISU Winter World University Games in January. - CONTRIBUTED
