Long-range forecasters from a National Weather Service agency have issued their outlook for the 2022-2023 winter season.
are predicting a warmer than average winter season in the New Jersey region and say it’s not clear whether the Garden State will end up with more snow or less snow than normal during the winter of 2022-2023., say there are “equal chances” that precipitation in the New Jersey region this upcoming winter will be average, above average or below average. The same prediction covers New York City and eastern Pennsylvania.
Forecasters from the Climate Prediction Center say wetter-than-average conditions are most likely this winter in western Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, northern Rockies, Great Lakes and Ohio Valley . Drier-than-average conditions are forecast in portions of California, the Southwest, the southern Rockies, southern Plains, Gulf Coast and much of the Southeast.
The rest of the nation — including New Jersey, New York City and the Philadelphia metro region — has an equal shot of either higher, lower or normal snowfall totals this winter.Below-normal temperatures are favored from the Pacific Northwest eastward to the western Great Lakes and the Alaska Panhandle.The greatest chance for warmer-than-average conditions are in western Alaska, and the Central Great Basin and Southwest extending through the Southern Plains.
La Niña is the opposite of El Niño, when ocean temperatures are warmer than normal, but both conditions have a major influence on weather patterns across the United States and around the world.
