The U.S. Senate on Wednesday voted 62-37 to move forward with legislation that would block the conservative-dominated U.S. Supreme Court from reversing its 2015 decision that legalized gay marriage.

Other Republicans who joined the legislative body’s Democrats in voting to move forward with the bill included Utah’s Mitt Romney, Indiana’s Todd Young, West Virginia’s Shelley Moore Capito, Iowa’s Joni Ernst, Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, North Carolina’s Richard Burr, Missouri’s Roy Blunt and Wyoming’s Cynthia Lummis.”the Defense of Marraige Act when Congress approved it in 1996.
