More than 2,000 collisions were reported at railroad crossings last year alone; now the Department of Transportation is looking to do something about it car auto cars

The $570 million pledged by the U.S. as the first round of spending on Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program will go towards creating overpasses, underpasses, and other measures. Such will be the case in Houston, Texas, which is ranked as the city with the second-highest number of rail crossing deaths in America.

It is receiving $36,916,200 to fund the construction of four underpasses and the elimination four at-grade crossings.“The Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program is another critical tool that FRA is using to make a lasting impact on the safety and transportation needs of communities nationwide,” said FRA Administrator Amit Bose.
