Two injured soldiers were treated and released from the hospital following the crash.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Two soldiers were injured when the U.S. Army AH-64D Apache helicopter they were in crashed at the Talkeetna Airport on Sunday, Feb.5 around 2:30 p.m.
The helicopter had stopped in Talkeetna to refuel and was on its way to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson for training. The accident occurred during takeoff from the Talkeetna Airport. The soldiers were taken to area hospitals, where they were treated and released, the U.S. Army said in a statement. “The cause of the accident is under investigation. A team from the Army Combat Readiness Center is expected to arrive Wednesday night or Thursday morning to begin the investigation,” according to a press release.
The Apache was one of four helicopters traveling from the 25th Attack Battalion at Fort Wainwright to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson for training exercises.
