U.S. Air Force Thunderbird F-16s will be practicing over downtown Cleveland August 1 and performing at the Cleveland National Air Show August 2, 3 and 4. Pilots few into Cleveland on Thursday, August 31.

The Thunderbird F-16s are staged at Hopkins throughout the air show. They can’t land at Burke Lakefront Airport because the runway is about 6,500 feet and they need at least 7,000 feet. This year marks the Thunderbirds’ 70th anniversary. Naturally, planes are upgraded. And pilots change, as they are limited to two years of service.
A native of Los Angeles, Katz has traveled the world flying Air Force F-16s since 2013. After training from November 2022 to March 2023 as a Thunderbird pilot, he started his two-year term last year. Now in his second year, he leads the signature diamond formation in a flying ballet. This demonstration puts jets as close to each other as 18 inches.
