There has been no one at the reception desk at the Clark’s Harbour medical clinic for over two years now. The Town can offer a turn key operation for anyone who wants to go to Clark’s Harbour to practice, but they aren’t getting any takers. CONTRIBUTED - ContributedCLARK'S HARBOUR, N.S. — There was a time in recent memory that access to primary health care was readily available in the Town of Clark’s Harbour.
But then came the COVID pandemic and the vaccine mandates, forcing Dr. Blair into retirement in late 2020. Since then the town’s medical clinic has sat empty. “We’re pretty much offering a free clinic, a turn-key operation for anyone who wants to come to Clark’s Harbour to practice. The same thing we had with Dr. Blair," he says."I’m losing hope that anyone is coming because let’s face it, this is going on throughout the province, throughout the country. This isn’t limited to us. We’re not unique to this. It’s going on everywhere.”
“People are desperate to get doctors,” he says. “I don’t know what has to be done to get doctors in here.” “This is something we discuss regularly at our Shelburne Community Partners committee. Nova Scotia Health is part of this community committee that includes representatives from all the municipal units in Shelburne County, including the Town of Clark’s Harbour and Town of Lockeport," says Mooney, saying the committee also includes the MLA for Shelburne, representatives from the Roseway Hospital Foundation and Auxiliary, the local Chamber of Commerce, and other local groups.
