Erin Magee and Nicole Albino know how to style the bump.
are two of the most stylish parents in New York. You can’t miss them: Both typically wear something head turning, print heavy, and no doubt colorful. After all, their roots are in fashion and music, giving them plenty of inspiration to pull from for their looks. Magee is the founder of the saucy downtown labelon Apple Music. The two met back in 2008 at the club Sway, where Albino was DJ’ing. “It was the most indie-sleaze club,” says Magee. Eight months later, they got married.
Magee carried their first child, Goldie, four years ago. This past March, Albino gave birth to Violet. The two have approached maternity style with a bare-it-all attitude . During Magee’s pregnancy, she opted for Laura Whitcomb dresses and stretchy Jean Paul Gaultier tops. “I had a more feminine style when I was pregnant because I wanted things to be tight,” says Magee.
Their children are equally chic. Goldie wears a rotation of Nike tracksuits with Crocs and Poshmark-sourced baby Jean Paul Gaultier. “Goldie picks out her own things. She wants sparkly stuff, like the frilliest thing,” says Magee. “She always wants to shop at Target, but so does Rihanna!” As for the littlest one? “She barely fits into clothes!”
But designer clothes and babies don’t always go hand in hand. “I had stains on everything, literally once a week,” says Magee. “I had this new Martine Rose top that she puked on, and the stain won’t come out.” Here, see how the two navigate motherhood.How did you see yourself as a woman before, and how do you see yourself now?: No matter how put together I thought I was before, having children really put me in my place. Everything else feels so lightweight compared to motherhood.
: I would say it’s taken the edge off my ambition and high task-oriented style of working. There’s much more reason to slow down, relax, and enjoy life as a family. It’s certainly affected my method of working on MadeMe. My time management has gone from pretty good to sickening! You’ve got to be okay with being interrupted a lot, and now it’s like: How many millions of things can you do in three minutes—ready, set, go!: My method of work has changed since I do a lot of work from home.
