Multi-vehicle collisions were reported in Houston and Austin after a winter storm brought ice and snow to Texas.
Two multi-vehicle pileups have left an estimated 22 cars crashed in and around Houston, as Texas is once again pummelled by icy weather.
Twelve vehicles were involved in a collision in Sugar Land, southwest of Houston, closing the Southwest Freeway for several hours on Thursday night as crews from the state's Department of Transportation tried to tackle the ice. About 10 miles away, in Fort Bend County, up to 10 vehicles collided on Thursday night, authorities said. The Westpark Tollway at FM 1464 had to close"due to ice" but has since reopened.
It is not yet clear whether any motorists were injured in the Sugar Land crash, but local police have described it as a"major accident." Minor injuries were reported in the Fort Bend pileup, the local sheriff's office told ABC13.were involved in a pileup in Texas. Six people were killed on February 11, 2021, when a winter storm struck Fort Worth.
