Leroy Gonzalez, 28, and Khalid F. Carter, 29, were charged in the shooting death of Ty'Jerell Curry, a college student and FedEx employee.
Shawanna Plummer got the call Thursday for which she’d been waiting more than seven years.
When they returned to the home Curry shared with his mom near 25th and Mercer streets, two gunmen were waiting in ambush. The gunmen opened fire from behind the vehicle, hitting Curry through the trunk of the car. After the killing, police found two different types of shell casings near the intersection, according to court records. A resident told police she heard gunshots that sounded “close” followed by the sound of someone running down the street.
An ambulance rushed Curry to a hospital, but doctors couldn’t stop the bleeding. He had been shot in the lower back. The bullet traveled up, and exited by his neck.Curry was pronounced dead March 11, 2016.
