Midnight Sun, the animated series based on Twilight author Stephenie Meyer's novel, has been given a straight-to-series order from Netflix.
It was first reported in April 2023 that a Twilight series was in early development at Lionsgate Television. Lionsgate’s Michael Burns confirmed the series would be animated in March 2024., Netflix will develop the project and has given Midnight Sun a straight-to-series order. A release date has not yet been set., it retells the events of Twilight from Edward Cullen’s point of view instead of Bella Swan’s.
“When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella’s side of the story,” a description of the novel reads. “At last, readers can experience Edward’s version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun. This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire.
It’s currently unclear if Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, or any of the other stars from the Twilight Saga movies will reprise their roles in Midnight Sun. Sinead Daly will serve as a writer and executive producer on the series.
