Tucker Carlson, Fox News’ highest-rated prime-time host, is leaving the network after more than a decade. Here's a look back at his rise to prominence as a TV personality.

Last week Fox News parent Fox Corp. agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle its legal battle with Dominion Voting Systems just before the start of a trial over defamation allegations. Mr. Carlson had been expected to testify during the trial. Before becoming a prominent television personality, Mr. Carlson began his media career in print, with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper and the Weekly Standard, a conservative magazine.The 53-year-old rose to national prominence as the co-host of the CNN show “Crossfire,” where he represented the political right until the show’s cancellation in 2005. On that show, he had a memorable on-air battle with Jon Stewart, then the host of “The Daily Show.
After his stint at CNN, Mr. Carlson hosted “Tucker” on MSNBC from 2005-2008, as well as a show on PBS. He joined Fox News in 2009.Mr. Carlson co-founded and edited the Daily Caller, a conservative news website launched in 2010 as a kind of right-wing alternative to the Huffington Post. He stepped down from his editorial role in 2016 and left the publication entirely in 2020.Mr. Carlson held the 8 p.m. slot on Fox News since 2017, when he took over from Bill O’Reilly.
Fox News will rely on a rotation of hosts until it names a permanent anchor for the slot vacated by Mr. Carlson. His last show was Friday.Cover photo by Brian Cahn/Zuma Press
