Start your day with FirstUp, the Star's morning news digest: TTC delays are longer than ever + why you might want to uninstall TikTok
Quebecor-owned telecom Videotron argues in a new complaint that Bell, along with other big phone companies, is double-billing Canadians for 911 services by overcharging for access to its legacy 911 system and forcing clients to pay for a next-generation 911 service that won’t exist for at least another year. Bell, however, is pushing back by saying that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission authorized the move and the delays aren’t its fault.
Due to the app’s “unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security,” TikTok is now banned from federal and Quebec government devices. To experts, it comes as no surprise given its “egregious” stance on data collection. Individuals who value their privacy or deal with sensitive information should consider uninstalling, too, or at least taking extra steps to be cautious, Kevin Jiang reports.
