President Trump heads to a Ford plant in Michigan for a visit already cloaked in controversy over his threats to cut funding to the battleground state and questions of whether he'll defy state guidelines requiring protective face masks.
Unable to stage campaign rallies due to the coronavirus, President Trump is visiting medical supply facilities in states crucial to his reelection bid. He goes to Michigan on Thursday, his third visit to a swing state in three weeks.State officials have urged Trump to wear a protective face mask when he tours the factory, citing Whitmer’s executive order and Ford’s own workplace protocols, adding to tensions over the visit.
“Anyone who has potentially been recently exposed, including the President of the United States, has not only a legal responsibility, but also a social and moral responsibility, to take reasonable precautions to prevent further spread of the virus,” wrote Dana Nessel, a Democrat.Asked if he would wear a mask, Trump said “I don’t know, we’re going to look at it” as he left the White House shortly after noon Thursday.
