The top presidential candidates’ campaign spending plummeted as the pandemic kept Donald Trump and Joe Biden close to home

The top presidential candidates’ campaign spending plummeted last month as the coronavirus pandemic kept President Trump and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden close to home, newly filed Federal Election Commission reports show.

Mr. Biden’s campaign spent $12.9 million and Mr. Trump’s $7.7 million in April, their lowest outlays of the year. The combined total was almost $13 million less than Mr. Trump and then-Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton spent in April 2016, according to FEC reports.
