. The ship was deployed to Léogâne, a city near Port-au-Prince, where the sailors supported field hospitals set up by volunteer medical staff. They provided security, helped with supplies, cleared rubble, carried stretchers and did whatever they could to help. It was a hellish scene, with long lines of people who had been terribly injured a week earlier and had not yet had medical assistance because the hospitals had collapsed.
