TORONTO — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday said Canadian national security authorities

are pursuing “credible allegations” tying agents of the Indian government to the fatal slaying of a prominent Sikh leader on Canadian soil in June.Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian citizen who was the president of a Sikh temple in British Columbia and vocal supporter of a separate Sikh state in the Punjab region of India, was shot dead in his truck by two masked gunmen outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia.

“Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty,” he said in Parliament on Monday. “In the strongest possible terms, I continue to urge the government of India to cooperate with Canada to get to the bottom of this matter.”
