Excluding COVID spending, per\u002Dperson federal expenditures in 2020\u002D21 marked Canada\u0027s two highest spending years, says the Fraser Institute.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.“In other words, COVID-related spending is not the reason why 2020 and 2021 are the two highest years of federal per-person spending,” said study author Jake Fuss in his report, Prime Ministers and Government Spending.

That means Trudeau “is on track to record the five highest levels of per-person spending in Canadian history,” the report concludes. The study also found that among post-Second World War prime ministers, Trudeau has overseen the second-largest annual average increase in per-person spending of 6.8%, although this was partly due to spending on the pandemic.
