Watching the Tropics

Some development is possible over the next couple of days while it moves northwestward, east of the Bahamas. A short-lived tropical depression or storm could form over the next day or so.
Tammy is a tropical storm but is quickly weakening into a post-tropical remnant low by early next week.Hurricane Otis exploded into a Category 5 from tropical storm strength in 12 hours Tuesday before making landfall on the Pacific side of Mexico. How was that possible? The waters were extremely warm around and over 85 degrees. Heat is energy, and warmer waters mean more energy to fuel hurricanes and make them rapidly intensify.
