Islands in the eastern Caribbean that are bracing for torrential rainfall, landslides and flooding from Tropical Storm Bret

What can we expect in terms of storms and torrential rain?Tropical Storm Bret grew stronger on Wednesday as it took aim at islands in the eastern Caribbean that braced for torrential rainfall, landslides and flooding.
The storm was located some 505 miles east of Barbados and is expected to grow stronger before lashing several eastern Caribbean islands on Thursday at near hurricane strength. A tropical storm watch was in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica, as officials in the region urged people to prepare for Bret.
The hurricane center said it was too soon to know where Bret's center would pass through, but it warned that up to 10 inches of rain were forecast from the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe south to Grenada and Barbados.

Tropical Storm Bret forms in Atlantic, with possible hurricane threat to Caribbean islandsTropical Storm Bret has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and could threaten the Caribbean. The National Hurricane Center in Miami said that Bret formed Monday in the central Atlantic. At 5 p.m., it had maxiumum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour. It was moving west at 21 miles per hour. The center says the storm is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane by Wednesday night and could threaten the Lesser Antilles on Thursday and Friday. It could then approach Haiti and the Dominican Republic by the weekend. The center says there is also a possibility the storm could turn north and avoid the islands.
