SAN ANTONIO - Tropical Storm Beryl continues to move north to northwest off the Texas coast from Corpus Christi heading to a landfall near or just east of Matag
orda Bay.
Beryl is in very favorable conditions from here until landfall for strengthening with very warm gulf water and in a low wind shear environment. The storm appears to be laying the foundation for rapid strengthening the next 4 to 6 hours and should come in as a strong cat 1 hurricane but could possibly still reach cat 2 of 96mph winds or higher.
Timing of landfall looks to be after midnight around 2am to 4am. Winds could gust over 90mph along the coast and just inland along with torrential tropical rain moving in with a flash flooding risk and storm surge up to 4 to 7 feet is possible. Beryl will move north then begin to curve northeast later in the day Monday while weakening. Flooding rain will be possible in the Houston area along with risk of a few tornadoes on the eastern half of the circulation.
In our region, Tropical Storm Warning is active in our eastern zone counties of Lavaca, DeWitt and Goliad Counties where gusts of 40 - 60mph are possible on the western side of Beryl. This same area could see some rain on the western side but the rest of the area will see little more than some clouds and a stray shower at best along with gusty breezes over 20mph.
