The system could form out of remnants of Hurricane Agatha, which made landfall as a strong Category 2 storm on Mexico’s Pacific coast on Monday.
As of Tuesday there's a 60 percent chance of a tropical depression forming in the southern Gulf or northwest Caribbean in the next few days. It could bring heavy rain to parts of southern Florida by the weekend.There could be a new storm to watch in the Atlantic this week as the 2022 hurricane season gets going.
Agatha had weakened to a tropical storm on Tuesday morning and was expected to continue to weaken more today over Mexico. Forecasters said that, tropical depression or not, heavy rain will be possible over southeastern Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, Guatemala and Belize in the next few days.The National Weather Service in Miami was monitoring the situation and said that there is a range of possibilities for this system and its future will be murky until it moves over Mexico and into the southern Gulf of Mexico.
