Lions. Just not enough of them.
The Lions, who improved to 10-4, were the first team with a winning record the Elks have faced since finding their winning ways. The Lions opened with a seven-play, 63-yard drive that saw Adams go five-for-five with four first downs and a touchdown, a five-yarder to Justin McInnis to lead 7-0. The Lions struck right back with a swing pass to Jevon Cottoy, who sidestepped a tackle by rookie coverage linebacker Mark McLaurin to break free for a 57-yard touchdown to lead 14-0.
With 5:39 left in the half, Elks defensive halfback Darrius Bratton stepped in front of a pass intended for McInnis put the ball back in Ford’s hands. But it slipped back out on the next series, when former Elks defensive end Mathieu Betts caused a strip-sack for a loss of 12 yards, giving Edmonton 27 yards on the night.
Faithfull made bad from the same distance to open second-half scoring with a missed single, as Edmonton trailed 24-18, before hitting from 42 yards out with five minutes remaining in the third quarter to pull within a field goal of B.C.’s lead.
