RIP Larry Sherman: The founder of influential house label Trax Records has died

on April 9. The label was an early platform for bringing house music out of the warehouse and club scene and into mainstream consciousness.

In 2006, Trax was acquired by Rachael Cain, an artist signed to the label as Screamin Rachael during the early '80s who had run the label alongside Sherman since the late '90s. This acquisition came after a legal battle over ownership of master tapes with the label's investors. Cain has served as Trax's owner and president since the acquisition.

"I met DJ-producers Jesse Saunders and Vince Lawrence, and recorded some of the earliest house music with them," Cain
