The hydro pole in Starlight Stadium will finally be moved, a step towards fulfilling a promise the City of Langford made to expand the stadium to 10,000 seats.
While the pole is being moved, Langford Parkway between Langford Lake and Jacklin roads will be single-lane alternating traffic 24 hours a day with intermittent road closures to accommodate the work. This will be in effect until March 31.
“Businesses will remain open, follow construction signage for access to businesses,” a traffic advisory notice from Langford says. “Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.”under the previous council, with a cost of $4.25 million to move the pole. Then-mayor Stew Young told CHEK News the time was right to move the pole and expand the stadium. The budget was approved shortly after the gold-medal-winning Canadian women’s soccer team visit, and“There’s a lot of support in the community for it,” he said in April 2022. “We could’ve sold out 10,000 tickets just on the women’s soccer game.”Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.
