Winters have proven to be brutal for California hospitals. In January 2022, hospitals saw another wave of admissions ignited by the omicron variant. The mid-January high of COVID-positive hospitalizations surpassed that of last summer’s delta surge — although it didn’t quite reach last winter’s peak.
