The Toronto Zoo said it will also step up its program to keep wild birds off the site and minimize access to areas that attract geese, ducks and other avian visitors. A concerning new trend in mammal infections of the highly contagious flu has been identified, with wild animals such as foxes, raccoons and skunks contracting the virus in North America.Hundreds of sea lions died recently in Peru of avian flu, and other animals, including dolphins, have also been affected.

Infections on mink farms are particularly worrying as mink are known to spread certain viruses to humans. An oMore than 58 million domestic birds have died or been culled in the U.S. because of avian flu.Share this article in your social network
