With the second-most wins in PHF history, Chuli is part of a group of elite goalies, which is led by Pride netminder Corinne Schroeder this season.
understands the importance of focus as well as anyone in the Premier Hockey Federation as the playoffs approach.
After a near-perfect 16-1-0 season, Chuli is having what she calls a “more realistic” campaign. One of the league’s great netminders with 31 career wins, second-most in PHF history, ranked fifth at 11-4-2 heading into Toronto’s final four games of what has been a watershed season for goaltending leaguewide — with the Boston Pride’sSchroeder has a league-high 16 victories, one shy of the mark set by another Boston netminder, Lovisa Selander in 2018-19.
“The only numbers I’m worried about are the wins in the wins column for the team,” Chuli said as the Six prepared for a two-game weekend series in Minnesota. “I’m pretty hard on myself. I’ll look at it, look at it again, and try and figure out what I can do better to help the team. But ultimately, you have to move on and try to use it as fuel for the next start that I get.”“Absolutely,” she said.
Schroeder has been a save machine, stopping 88 of 90 shots in a two-game sweep of the Montreal Force last weekend. She has faced 50 shots or more four times and set a Pride single-season record with her 19th start. The native of Elm Creek, Man. also holds the league mark for shutouts with seven this season, and needs just 13 saves to reach 678 and break that record. The 28-year-old Chuli, who earned a nod the week before, is from Waterford, Ont.
“We’ve been going a lot — the grind, there’s a lot of travel — but we have to keeping focused on the details: taking care of our defensive zone, making sure we are doing the right things on the defensive side of the puck so we can put the puck in the net,” Chuli said.
