City of Toronto says it is aware of the issue and working to restore the pond as soon as possible.
How long does true love last? Longer, hopefully, than the true blue colour of the water inThe water in the heart-shaped pond at the centre of the park has turned a scummy green, a little more than two weeks after“It’s just gross,” said Jessica Gabanna, who dropped by to visit the pond on Monday with her toddler. “I was a competitive swimmer. My coach would make us swim in open water in Lake Ontario. And it was cleaner than this.
Gabanna was one of about a dozen people at the new park on Monday afternoon, puzzling over how the water in one of Toronto’s newest attractions got so quickly fouled up. It’s perhaps not an unexpected turn of events in a city that has been criticized for failing to keep existing services and attractions in a state of good repair“The City has been made aware that a portion of the pond’s mechanical is not functioning properly,” the City of Toronto media relations office said in a statement to the Star Monday.
“City staff are working alongside both Waterfront Toronto and the contractor to address the issue and ensure the pond returns to working order as soon as possible.” Love Park was hailed as a innovative solution to carving out green space in a densely populated waterfront neighbourhood and was billed by the city as an urban oasis and magnet for tourists. It was built on 8,100 metres of land, between Harbour Street and Queen’s Quay West at York Street, that used to be occupied by a winding Gardiner Expressway off-ramp.
