Toronto police say a man is facing fraud charges and they believe there could be more victims.
They say between April 2011 and May 31, the man solicited funds for an entity titled the ‘Ontario Police Public Safety News’. Officers say he contacted business owners to sell ads for a magazine he claimed was widely distributed throughout Ontario. He also claimed the funds would be donated to free community programs and educational programs for children.They say the victims involved believed he was affiliated with police services, due to the name of the magazine.As a result police are reminding the public that police services do not solicit funds from the public for any reason.
