WILLIAMS, AZ — The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado affected areas just north of Williams Monday afternoon.530pm: Our survey team has confirmed an EF-1 tornado affected the Junipine Estates community, just north of Williams, earlier this afternoon. Numerous structures and trees were damaged due to winds up to 100mph. #azwx
— NWS Flagstaff October 4, 2022 The National Weather Service initially said a"possible" tornado touched down about eight miles north of Williams, west of Flagstaff, but would need to survey the area before it can confirm. At about 5:30 p.m. the NWS did confirm it was a tornado. The community of Junepine, north of Williams, received damage to several homes and downed powerlines, according to the NWS.
Approximately 500 customers in the area were left without power as of 2 p.m., according to APS's website. By 6:30 p.m., a majority of the outages have cleared.The Coconino Sheriff's Office, APS, Junepine Fire and Williams Fire are also on scene investigating.
