La tormenta tropical Philippe arrojó fuertes aguaceros sobre las Islas Vírgenes Estadounidenses y Británicas el miércoles, y se alejó del noreste del Caribe rumbo a las Bermudas y luego a Nueva Inglaterra y la costa oriental de Canadá.
La tormenta estaba a unos 320 kilómetros al nornoroeste de St. Thomas el miércoles en la tarde. Tenía vientos de 75 kilómetros por hora y se dirigía rumbo nornoroeste a 11 kph , dijo el Centro Nacional de Huracanes en Miami.
Las Islas Vírgenes Estadounidenses cerraron las escuelas y reportaron apagones en St. Thomas, St. Croix y St. John en medio de torrenciales aguaceros y relámpagos.Las escuelas en San Martín y San Bartolomé también cerraron el miércoles en la mañana y las autoridades en los territorios franceses en el Caribe prohibieron a la ciudadanía nadar o hacer cualquier otra actividad en el mar.
Se pronostican hasta 30 centímetros de lluvia en las Islas Vírgenes Estadounidenses y las Islas Vírgenes Británicas, y hasta 10 centímetros en el noreste y sureste de Puerto Rico. Se prevé además que Philippe se intensifique y llegue a las Bermudas entre jueves en la tarde y temprano el viernes. Las autoridades allí emitieron un aviso de tormenta tropical.Papa pide objetivos climáticos vinculantes y verificables y alerta de que el planeta se acerca al “punto de no retorno”
