If you were looking for a showdown between the leading candidates, this debate hasn’t provided that moment. Follow our reporters' live updates.
The party’s divide over health care just spilled out on stage between Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden.
The candidates are feuding over whether its important to retain private insurance or rip up the current system for a new government health plan. Mrs. Warren, who supports Medicare for All, backed her transition process, which would include steps to beef up the Affordable Care Act and tackle high drug prices.
Mr. Sanders also championed his Medicare for All proposal, saying his approach is bolder than his challengers. Mr. Biden said it can be done without the Medicare for All price tag and said the vast majority of Americans don’t support Medicare for All. Instead, he said, the government should build on Obamacare and add a public option that lets people keep their private insurance.
