The Tomball ISD school board held a special meeting to discuss plans for a new school at the district's innovation center on May 2, 2023.a plan that would put 2021 bond funds toward a new intermediate school at the district’s Innovation Center instead of the elementaryThe district announced the decision last month, asserting an intermediate school offered longer-term and more evenly distributed enrollment capacity relief for area campuses.
“We want to work through any challenging times that we may have in our history together,” Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora said to meeting attendees. “I’m thankful for you, that you chose Tomball ISD for a reason. We appreciate your continuing interest and obviously the much love that you have for your children and your neighbors’ children.”
Ross said the possibility of a second school at the junior high campus would need to be reviewed. Moving the track and field facilities over to make room for another school may be an option, he said. Among parents’ concerns expressed at the town hall in April was a feeling that the district’s approach to communicating the bond update didn’t allow time for broad community outreach.
