Young, who often wore the flamboyant leisure suits that were fashionable at the time, was inducted into the“When you go through something like that, you don’t enjoy it as much as you should,” Young told The Star-Ledger in 2003. “But years later, you realize how hard it is to do it, and you appreciate it a lot more. That year happened so fast — you win 31 in a row, there’s no time to enjoy it. It’s more like, ‘When’s the next game?’ And then when it’s over, you think it will happen again.

Young, who took Rutgers to four NCAA Tournament and five NIT appearances, coached many of the best players in Rutgers history. Twelve of them were drafted by the NBA, including stars James Bailey, Eddie Jordan, Hollis Copeland and Phil Sellers. A two-time All-American, Sellers remains the program’s leading scorer more than four decades after his graduation.
