The District of Tofino is launching hourly pay parking along some of its downtown streets beginning Monday, July 17.

The seasonal pay parking program will be in place from July to October and is intended to increase parking availability and parking turnover during the busy tourism season.

Revenue collected from the program will be used to fund other local programs and services, according to the district. The paid parking will be in effect between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, with “dedicated parking ambassadors” enforcing the paid parking hours seven days a week. Downtown Tofino residents can apply for a free parking permit for one vehicle, as well as residents of Ahousaht, Opitsaht, Esowista, Hesquiaht and Tyhistanis.Parking will cost $2 per hour for regular vehicles, and $4 per hour for recreational vehicles, up to a maximum of four hours between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.Sign up for the CHEK Now daily email newsletter to get breaking news and the day's top stories sent to your email.

“We are confident this parking model will ensure a healthier turnover of parking spaces to allow more people shared enjoyment and convenient access to downtown Tofino.”
