Banned from school and university, they are shuttered in their homes, fearing danger. Education is a moral imperative and economic necessity. Got a drive to the Blair LRT station. I arrived at the courthouse at 7:50 a.m. and they wouldn’t let us in because it doesn’t open until 8 a.m. So we waited. When we did get in, it was like airport security: belts, coats, pockets all empty, through the metal detector and upstairs to wait. I thought it odd that only about 15 people were there. At exactly 9:20 a.m., a woman in a uniform came out of a room and said, “Oh, didn’t anyone notify you? There is no jury selection today.”
No apology, no reimbursement of costs, not even an apologetic tone. Just go home. Next time, I’ll just not show up. This mandatory volunteerism needs respect on both sides
