Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre struck a nerve when he publicly shamed a Niagara Falls resident by calling her wartime home a “tiny little shack.”
The federal government built an estimated 46,000 wartime houses in communities across Canada between 1941 and 1947. Neighbourhoods full of wartime houses continue to thrive and provide homes for hundreds of thousands.Article content Too often, the active-transportationists hijack the discussion to diss those of us who still rely on the automobile for most of our transportation needs. They ignore the reality that the world has been built around the automobile since the 1950s and that cars are not going to disappear overnight. Even as we transition to electric vehicles and, potentially, autonomous navigation, a functioning road network will be essential.
