Today in Canada’s Political History: Happy Dominion- Canada Day; PM Sir Mackenzie Bowell unveils Macdonald’s Parliament Hill statue
birthday to the Dominion of Canada and all my loyal readers. As you have probably guessed, Dominion-Canada Day is one of my favourite days of the year. It is one of those rare times we allow ourselves the treat of celebrating the work of the Fathers of Confederation in crafting and fostering this great nation.
And for today’s history anniversary, it is appropriate that we celebrate the fact that it was on this date in 1895 that Sir John A. Macdonald’s majestic Parliament Hill statue was dedicated. Heading the ceremony was Prime Minister Sir Mackenzie Bowell. You can read his remarks from July 1, 1895 below.is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist.
