TikTok sent a push notification on Wednesday prompting users to call their representatives to “stop a TikTok shutdown.” Inundated with calls, a House committee unanimously backed a proposal that could ban the app Thursday evening, setting up a floor vote next week. TikTok’s message read: “Congress is planning a total ban of TikTok. Speak up now—before your government strips 170 million Americans of their constitutional right to free expression.
The measure gained the support of House Speaker Mike Johnson and could soon come up for a full vote in the House.
