Monday is the second straight day the tri-state area is expected to see temperatures in the 70s. It won't last long, thoughPotentially severe storms featuring damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible for parts of the tri-state area Monday night, mainly west of New York City, after a second straight day with temperatures about 20 to 25 degrees above average.
The weather pattern is more typical for late spring or summer than for early March, though it's hard to complain about a few days in the 70s after a chilly stretch. Sunday saw daily records broken in Poughkeepsie, Newark and Queens . Though Monday features wildly warm weather for this time of year, it likely won't break more records.Most of the morning stays dry and windy, with gusts reaching as high as 50 mph before the storm threat kicks them up a notch. Thunderstorms are expected to quickly develop and slide through the tri-state area ahead of a cold front.
Storms should start to hit the Catskills and northwest New Jersey as early as 4 p.m., then work their way through the greater New York area around peak evening rush time before passing east of Long Island Monday night.Download our local news and weather app for
