THUNDER BAY — October's weather is off to a potentially record-setting start in the Thunder Bay region.
Environment Canada is forecasting high temperatures in the 25-degree range Monday and Tuesday, threatening records that go back as far as 70 years."We're seeing a nice, warm air mass for the next couple of days here. There's a warm front to the north, there's a cold front to the west, so we're just sitting nicely in this pocket of warm weather. We could see up to record-breaking temperatures," said meteorologist Ray Houle.
Thunder Bay's record high for Oct. 2 is 27 degrees, set in 1953, while the record for Oct. 3 is 25.6, established in 1956. Houle noted that it's not that uncommon to see a hot spell in October, but "then it could be a quick snap back to fall and below-seasonal temperatures with the passage of a cold front."
