Trolley expansion, plus autonomous shuttle and smart traffic lanes project, came in response to SANDAG request for ideas from private sector
An idea to extend the San Diego trolley about 1 1/2 miles into Tijuana, if adopted, could become reality within a decade, a company promoting the idea and a SANDAG leader said Sunday.
Antoinetter Meier, the senior director of regional planning at SANDAG, said the agency will select which of the projects — if any — to pursue by the end of the year. The trolley extension into Tijuana was the largest of the three proposals.
Another project, by Palo Alto-based Cavnue, proposes to integrate smart street lanes onto freeways for self-driving cars. Mark Delaverne, a vice president at Cavnue, said the company’s technology involves mounting sensors on poles along limited-access freeway lanes, such as the carpool lanes on Interstate 15.
