Three San Diego County men have been accused of killing a fellow inmate in a Riverside County state prison Saturday.

Samuel Ricardez, 28, Jonathan Orduno, 23, and Juan Madrigal, 26, are suspected of using inmate-manufactured weapons to stab 42-year-old Luis Padilla multiple times around 7 p.m. at Ironwood State Prison in Blythe.Padilla, of Los Angeles, was taken to the prison’s triage and treatment unit, officials said. He died just before 7:40 p.m.No other information was immediately available.

Padilla had been sent to Riverside County in 2001 after he was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole for preventing/dissuading a victim or witness under specified circumstances. He also was convicted of making a criminal threat and gang-related charges. Madrigal had been given a life sentence after he was convicted last year of killing 24-year-old Debron Blaney on April 12, 2020, near Alanberto’s taco shop on University Avenue and College Avenue in the Redwood Village neighborhood. Madrigal was also sentenced to seven years for second-degree murder and five years for discharge of a firearm at an inhabited dwelling/vehicle/aircraft.

Orduno and Ricardez were transferred from San Diego County in 2022 and 2014, respectively. They were serving life sentences for first-degree murder with gun-related enhancements.
