ON Thursday, Glasgow councillors will be given yet another chance to stand up for our taxi trade when my colleague councillor John Daly will bring a motion calling for a delay to a low emission zone being introduced in the city in just a couple of months’ time.In fact, I was the first politician to call for such action two years ago.
If we plough ahead in June with this unworkable plan, we don’t just risk thousands of jobs, but we also risk the safety of our most vulnerable citizens - those who rely on taxis to get home safely. I am hopeful that we may get somewhere this week with a group of common-sense councillors from across the political spectrum coming together in unity.
However, there is one thing we can be sure of this week and that’s Glasgow Green councillors once again highlighting why they should not be allowed anywhere near positions of power.
