In places, the ice was 2-to-2.5 metres thick. Halifax transit ferries had to stop running. It would be 10 days later before the harbour was clear again.27 March 1978
Before his hit single, Snow had regularly performed live on CHNS radio in Halifax and later signed on with RCA Victor Canada, touring the country until the mid-1940s when he went to Nashville. His career would span over 50 years, with 140 albums and 85 singles on Billboard from 1950 to 1980. He died in Nashville in 1999.
By 1957, they also began performing a television version of their radio show on CBHT in Halifax, which in turn became a CBC national television program called Don Messer’s Jubilee. They attracted a wide audience as one of the most popular traditional music groups in Canada during the mid-20th century.

Later in 1870, employee James Forman would be accused of embezzlement, but due to his “social position and the collapse of his health, the bank did not prosecute, despite an uproar in the press… He quickly left Halifax and went to London where he died a few months later….”
