The NYC Dance Alliance Foundation has given scholarships to dance stars like Ariana DeBose, Tiler Peck, Catherine Hurlin, Brittany Pollack and Courtney Spears.

Zoey Anderson will never forget her first NYC Dance Alliance Competition when she was ten-years old. Although she had been dancing since she was two, she remembers walking into the regional competition in Ogden, Utah, seeing all the dancers, and feeling completely overwhelmed.Courtesy NYC Dance Alliance Foundation

In the past decade NYC Dance Alliance Foundation has awarded $3 million in college scholarships to over 300 student dancers throughout the United States. “This isn’t just about dance,” says NYCDAF founder and Executive Director Joe Lanteri. . “We are really helping to shape an entire next generation of human beings who are going to do incredible things on this planet, in the dance world and beyond.

One year after that first competition Anderson went to New York City to participate in her first NYC Dance Alliance national competition. “I remember saying to my mother, ‘I want to move to New York when I grow up and go to Marymount Manhattan college,’” she recalls. “To be honest I knew nothing about the school, but we had just passed it on the street and I knew they had dancing.” Seven years later she auditioned for college dance programs and selected Marymount Manhattan.
