Rental hosts can donate a percentage of their earnings on Airbnb to help people who need shelter.

The San Francisco-based home rental and travel site announced Thursday a new donations effort to let hosts give a portion of the money they make from renting their home out to organizations that help people in need of temporary housing and shelter. The program is available to hosts in the U.S., and will roll out later this year globally.

Airbnb partnered with organizations that help people when they need housing because of a disaster, illness, or other crisis, including the International Rescue Committee, All Hands and Hearts and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The company estimates that if every host in the U.S. opted to donate 1% of their earnings, it could provide temporary shelter for 2 million people this year.“Your contributions go to trusted nonprofits who help people find housing.

Airbnb debuted a project called Open Homes in 2017, which lets hosts offer their homes for free to people such as refugees or those who have displaced by natural disasters. The new initiative will let Airbnb hosts provide help for those in need without having to open up their own homes.
