Jamie Gill, executive director of Roksanda and board member of the British Fashion Council, wants to address fashion's lack of diversity by launching a new talent incubator, The Outsider’s Perspective.
Gill is keen that the recruitment process cover a wide range of business areas with appropriate skill sets, including merchandising, sales strategy, finance, PR and digital marketing. Of course, the initial group of 25 talents come from a variety of backgrounds that extend beyond racial diversity. How does the founder select these recruits? “They have to have drive and ambition, as well as four to five years of experience within their specific fields,” explains Gill.
The first networking event for candidates and industry professionals will take place in December. “There are so many non-believers in the business of fashion, especially those who are white, middle-aged and already have a great gig,” says Gill.
