This is a man who, for his 30th birthday, holidayed in Tunisia - where the first Star Wars movie was set - and drank Blue Milk. Understandably, for Edwards the idea of ever getting to direct Star Wars was a dream come true.
"There were these two ideas for a movie. And I read one, and I was like, I got to the end and I thought, I can see why they want to do that; I'm not the guy for that, I'm really curious what this other idea is.
Lucasfilm later sent Edwards an email with two ideas for Star Wars movies, one of which would eventually become Rogue One . "I spent the first ten, twenty minutes going, you can't make this film," he recalls. "This is sacriligeous, this shouldn't happen." He doesn't seem to have quite shaken this attitude, even when he was making the movie, given he remembers how strange it felt to be doing Star Wars without George Lucas' involvement.
